The pharmacist is the last check, ensuring the medication is safe for the person and is taken correctly. Because of this, they have the right, nay the responsibility, to refuse to dispense a drug is they feel there is a problem. Yes, your daughter can refuse to answer. But doing that would be foolish since the questions are about protecting her from harm. And if she does refuse, the pharmacist has every reason to not dispense the drug. When I had started a job working acute medicine we had to transfer patients up to other wards, and most of the time I would do it myself instead of waiting for a porter because it was just quicker. Walked past a room of a patient I didn’t know in this other ward. Thought “oh he looks like he’s bleeding somewhere”, but no evidence, he was sitting and eating his lunch. Settled my patient into their new bed and handed over within minutes. Walked back past the room and he was just staring at his lap while fresh blood pumped up from between his legs. In my old job, we had an assessment unit for referrals from the community. This was a waiting room for about 50 people, a few bed spaces and a triage room which was an old cubicle we converted with a desk and a trolley in it. I triaged a little old lady, she was fine, just a minor chest infection according to the doctor. I didn’t think she was right, but couldn’t prove it, I just felt it. This little lady needed to stay in for a day or two just to have some social problems sorted too, as well as some antibiotics. I settled her back into a big armchair, sorted her paperwork, and bloodwork. Got her a chest x-ray, and handed over to the ward she was going to over the phone while the doctor finished writing up her examination. Well, the patient’s daughter comes running out of the waiting room and her mum is blue from the waist up and we knew then she had a pulmonary embolism. She arrests, but somehow 30 compressions and some oxygen got her back (though we would be thrombolytic which means 90mins continuous compressions) but we must have moved the clot. Got her diagnosed and treated for a massive PE post-arrest, she was sat up having a cup of tea half an hour after it, and we sent her over to cardiac for telemetry. I had been watching this woman like a hawk because I just knew she wasn’t ok. I wasn’t the only nurse who felt it either. No reasons, we just know.
Whatever gods there may have mercy on the wretch that gets a dose of my tongue and the dislocated joint to boot! I delight in reminding abusers of their powerlessness and when they respond with a threat, well-researched knowledge of their impotence and sad manly performance both in and out of bed deflates his ego and any courageous swelling he’s done to his personality or body. They share so much without even knowing it and fear being humiliated almost more than they fear for their own safety which is a convenient mix when trying to help women escape these men! I’ve never been content with simple victory and forgetting. I will be one of the faces they remember on their death bed in 30 years. That’s my goal. Whenever they think of revenge against the woman who left them, it’s my mocking smile they scuttle away with. I hope to one day make an army of women just like me so the next time a man lifts his hand to strike someone, he is chased and hounded by a million mocking smiles. What use is a physical, deadly, and costly war someone can surrender their way out of? No, I’m content to wage battles in a wicked man’s mind. And I learned from the witch hunters who falsely accused women like me! This is my jam!! The pharmacist is the last check, ensuring the medication is safe for the person and is taken correctly. I’ve also sent five friends to him who have bought cars from him. A couple of days later, I got a call from a lawyer at the state capitol. He demanded to know who my lawyer was. I told him I was representing myself. He started basically threatening me. He said there was no way I could win, and that the court would assess me attorney’s fees for the school. It would cost me thousands of dollars. I told him I wouldn’t withdraw the suit. He told me to think about it, and I told him I didn’t need to. The court date came around. The lawyer came into the courthouse about the same time I did. He walked into the courtroom first, and said, “Good morning, your honor.” The judge said hello and asked him his name. I came in right after him, looked up at the judge, and said, “Hi, Jim.” The judge looked up and said, “Oh, hi, Eric.” I had made it a point to be able to see the attorney’s face when this was spoken. His chin dropped an inch or so and his mouth gaped open a bit. I was valedictorian of our class and was never inducted into the society. In my case, they were correct, and I had no problem accepting their decision. My wife and children had left for the week to visit her mother who lived 500 miles away, and I was getting ready to call her one evening just to chat. Then it struck me: she’s always calling her mom, I could program the number into the phone and get brownie points. Now, we had never used the front door. We had only been in the house for a couple of weeks, and to tell you the truth, I had only entered from the side door where the cars are parked. Well, as I said, I had never used the front door, so I didn’t realize how many locks and chains were on it. Needless to say, it took me a while to get the door open, and when I did there were two policemen standing there – one on the stoop and the other on the sidewalk with his hand near his hip. But as I readied myself for bed a thought struck me: they believed me. That was a pretty lame excuse as far as I was concerned, but they believed me. They didn’t want to come in and check on the place, maybe look in the closets or refrigerator. At least find out that the phone was hung up voluntarily.
